We were liars by E. Lockhart, spoiler free.

We were liars (spoiler free). Another Booktok recommendation !  I was too curious... And truth is, my curiosity is going to kill me one day. I cannot help but wanting to know, to experience, to see by myself...  I feel like Booktok recommendations are truly... uneven. Some are amazing, just like Alice by Christina Henry (see my review here : ) and some are just... awful...? And unfortunately, this story falls under the latter. The story. We follow Cadence, part of the Sinclairs, a very rich (and white ) family, who goes on summer vacation every year on their private island. The four cousins, Mirren, Johnny, Gat and Cadence are known in the family as the liars. During the summer when she was fifteen, she had an accident and lost most of her memories from this time. The next year, she is forbidden to go back on the island and has to repeat a year because she got addicted to her medicine. The year after, when she is seventeen, she goes back to the island and reconnects with...

Slaughterhouse Five or the Children's Crusade by Kurt Vonnegut, spoiler free

Slaughterhouse Five or the Children's Crusade (spoiler free). Despite "majoring"* in literature in high school, I realized that they are many classics that I did not read. In my quest of self love at a time when I felt more desperate than ever, I wanted to spend some time again for myself and doing again things that I loved before but could not do anymore. As I said before, one of those was reading.  I then started to search here and there for books and came across Slaughterhouse Five. I had heard of it some years before, when I was looking at war related works. Kurt Vonnegut is an author, but also one of the seven American soldiers who survived the bombing at Dresden in 1945 during World War II. This episode, and all the events he experienced during the war, influenced a lot his work. Slaughterhouse Five is considered one the best works of the 20th century and put Kurt Vonnegut to fame. The story and thoughts. As my thoughts are tangled with the story, I'm going to m...

One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus, spoiler free.

One of Us is Lying (spoiler free). Another Booktok recommendation! When I read the synopsis, it felt like a mix between Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, two shows I watched during my middle school years. Full of nostalgia, and legit curious, I jumped on the occasion and ran into the first bookshop I found to buy it. The seller, adorable as he is, gave me a free copy of One of Us is Next, which is supposed to be the sequel (I'll talk about it more later on this review). That copy was not published yet, and was the free copy editors give sellers and journalists so they can give a review. The shop still had a copy left, and the seller kindly proposed to give it to me! I said yes, especially since the second one was supposed to be published weeks later, on april, saving me from spending almost 18 euros.  Back to the main topic : One of Us is Lying, a spoiler free review. The story. Bronwyn, Cooper, Nate, Addy and Simon. Five very different students who get detention at the sa...

The Jefferson Key by Steve Berry, spoiler free.

The Jefferson Key (spoiler free). I love history. It's truly fascinating and I could spend hours and hours reading books and articles, listening to podcasts or even watching videos explaining historical events. One of my hobby is also to go to museums.  When I started to see reading as a hobby, back in my last year of elementary school, I only read thrillers, my favorite author being Agatha Christie. Then, I discovered others works and famous authors of this genre and it naturally lead to historical thrillers, like Dan Brown.  After quarantine time but when there was a curfew, I went to a bookshop, looking for a present for my best friend's birthday. That's when I stumbled across Steve Berry, that I never heard about before. All of his works seemed similar to Dan Brown's, as both authors shine in the same genre. Looking at the long list of books by Steve Berry, I chose to start with the Jefferson Key, that seemed really conspiracy like.  The story. Similar to Agatha...
